Head for heights: Chinese acrobat Aisiwaer, walks backwards with his eyes blindfolded along a 2,297 ft long high-wire some 656ft above a raging ravine in south China's Hunan province
Difficulties: The acrobat - not wearing safety gear - gets closer to the other side of the ravine but fatigue begins setting in as he starts to become troubled by the wind
Aisiwaer uses his pole to help steady his balance during the stunt. Onlookers gasped as he stumbled a number of times throughout the crossing and had to sit on the wire to regain his balance
Close call: The tightrope walker stumbles at the start of the crossing but manages to sit down on the wire to regain his balance - and avoid almost certain death in the jaws of the ravine below
Perilous: Aisikaier manages to balance on the high-wire, wearing his red blindfold and moving backwards
Tricky: Aisikaier gets back to his feet and carries on across the 2,297 ft long wire above the gorge
Tension: The daredevil is a picture of concentration as he crosses the gorge. The stunts have been done by China's Uighur Muslim ethnic group for centuries and Aisikaier is a sixth-generation performer
Don't look down! A camera fitted to the tightrope walker's back shows the terrifying views he had of the water below as he performed the stunt
Woah... Aisikaier starts to wobble as winds pick up and he becomes dizzy towards the end of the crossing
Oh, no! Aisikaier loses his pole as it becomes clear that this is more than a brief stumble on the 2,297 ft long wire
It's all over: The Chinese performer loses his footing but tries to cling on to the highwire to stop himself from falling into the trees below
Agghh: The tightrope disappears off the bottom of the screen as he plunges to the sides of the valley below. He can only hope that he lands well
Help! The acrobat grasps at the air as he stumbles then topples off the high-wire, plunging through the trees to the sides of the valley below
